Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand

And when she shines she really shows you all she can.

So, yes! We finally have a car. A 2006 Kia Rio in “Sunset Beach” with 56,000 km “on the clock.” It’s a good little car and we have already used it to explore Pretoria and run some errands. We’re sure the locals are happy that we picked an orange one so they can see it as it comes at them on the wrong side of the road.

Yep, that’s right, we are on the U.K. system of motoring here, driving on the left side. So far, so good, though. We’ve had practice in Ireland and Wales, where the roads are as wide as a cattle path. And we have our “L” sign in the rear window to signify that we are “Learners” who may not be such awesome drivers.

Getting the vehicle registered and insured is another story. We’ll save it for another day. For now, though, we are enjoying our new wheels.

We are also enjoying our new digs! We just moved into our new (but, again, temporary) home today. Photos and description coming soon.

  1. Wow, guys. She is a beauty. Definitely a head turner. I bet that when you come back to the US you will buy one just like that. In fact, it would be super cool if you brought back that very one, with the wheel on the wrong side of the car and all.
Jokes aside, I am glad that you finally got your car. And it only took one month for the money to get there. Enjoy the new ride!

  2. OK, I’ve enjoyed all the posts – the funny and the serious – but you really won me over with the Duran Duran reference. Sharp, sharp!

    • We had a little pool going here to see which reference would elicit a response from you. Jenny won with Duran Duran. I had Culture Club and Indie drew Spandau Ballet. Jenny’s prize: Goat head stew, tripe and a bottle of Windhoek.
